PURE VOLUME (2022)

Pure volume is a performative act that describes the fragility of materials that become a stimulation of the action itself. Siagian visited Iceland in May 2022. There, he decided to spend time catching a small amount of air and putting it in a transparent plastic bag. This work is a continuation of his earlier work Act of unseen (2018), where he explores his curiosity about air and its form.

Siagian valued the container of air that he catches as a sculpture which he put in a box and let it send to his studio in Ghent, Belgium. On the box, several notes are attached, with an A4 size of paper that says that the package is fragile, an instruction on how to handle the box and an artist's statement.

The package has been stuck at the douane border in Belgium and has been sent back to Iceland with the reason that there is not enough documentation, tax clarification, and diplomatic permission.

On the 13th of August in 2022 Siagian decided to hold an exhibition at the annual local flea market, Ghent, Belgium. Early in the morning, he catches air in Scandinavieland, and thereafter he hangs it on a wire with a title of the work. The exhibition took place from 9 A.M. until 6 P.M.
